Applications are invited from qualified candidates who wish to be considered for enlistment as Trainee Primary School Educator in the Roman Catholic Education Authority, Mauritius for the following fields:-
- Health and Physical Education and Road Safety;
- The Arts; and
- Civic and Values Education.
II AGE LIMIT
Candidates should be between 18 and 40 years of age by the closing date for the submission of applications.
III QUALIFICATIONS
- Candidates should possess:-
- a Cambridge School Certificate with credit in at least five subjects including English Language, French and Mathematics obtained at not more than two sittings or
Passes not below Grade C in at least five subjects including English Language, French, and Mathematics obtained at not more than two sittings at the General Certificate of Education “Ordinary Level” provided that at one of the sittings, passes have been obtained either (i) in five subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any two subjects or (ii) in six subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any one subject .
Note
Candidates not possessing a credit in English Language at the Cambridge School Certificate will also be considered provided they possess passes in at least two subjects at “Principal Level” and one subject at “Subsidiary Level” as well as the General Paper obtained on one certificate at the Cambridge Higher School Certificate Examinations
- a Cambridge Higher School Certificate or Passes in at least two subjects obtained
on one certificate at the General Certificate of Education “Advanced Level”.
OR
Equivalent qualifications to A and B above acceptable to the Roman Catholic
Education Authority.
- Candidates should be computer literate.
Note
- Qualification at 1.A above should have been obtained prior to qualification at 1.B above.
- Candidates should produce written evidence of knowledge claimed.
- Qualifications obtained after the closing date for the submission of application will not be accepted.
- The onus for the submission of equivalence of qualification (if applicable) for the relevant authorities (Tertiary Education Commission or Mauritius Qualifications Authority) rests on the candidates. Applications will not be considered failing the non-submission of Equivalence Certificate, as appropriate, by the closing date.
- The Roman Catholic Education Authority reserves the right to convene only the best qualified candidates for interview.
IV CONDITIONS OF TRAINING AND ALLOWANCE
Selected candidates will be required to follow a two-year training course, both theoretical and practical, in all aspects of the work of a Primary School Educator leading to the award of a Teacher’s Diploma (Primary) at such institution as may be approved.
Candidates selected for the teaching of none-core subjects related to holistic development of pupils will be exposed to the broad aspects of the school curriculum and will be trained in the teaching of the following fields –
- Health and Physical Education and Road Safety;
- The Arts; and
- Civic and Values Education.
During the training period, Trainee Primary School Educators will draw an allowance in the scale of Rs 14,325 x 275 – 14,875 a month. They will, however, have to meet from their allowance their expenditure on such items as books and such articles of personal equipment as required. Travelling expenses incurred by bus from residence to place of work/training and back will be refunded.
On successful completion of their training, Trainee Primary School Educators will be considered for appointment to the grade of Primary School Educator as when vacancies occur.
The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in scale Rs 19,575 x 475 – 21,950 x 625 – 23,200 x 775 – 32,500 x 925 – 35,275 QB 36,200 x 925 – 37,125 x 1,225 – 39,575 a month.
V Bond
Selected candidates will be required, after serving a satisfactory trial period of 15 days, to enter into a bond (which will start as from the date of enlistment ) together with two sureties in the sum of four hundred and twenty thousand and six hundred and fifty rupees (Rs 420,650) to the effect that they will follow and complete the training course and serve in the Roman Catholic Aided Primary Schools in Mauritius for a period of five years as from the date of appointment in the grade of Primary School Educator.

- Qualified candidates should call at the Roman Catholic Education Authority, 1, Célicourt Antelme Street, Rose-Hill, Mauritius, as from Thursday 5 January 2017, between 9.30 hours and 15.30 hours to obtain the prescribed form.
- All candidates should submit their application on the prescribed form together with
one photocopy of their academic and birth certificates. - Incomplete, inadequate or inaccurate filling of the application form may cause elimination of
candidates from the competition.
